Qilin Ransomware Hits the City of Quiberon

On Sunday, May 3, 2026, the computer system of the municipality of Quiberon was hit by a cyberattack. The town hall officially communicated about this security incident on Tuesday, May 5.

The Qilin Group Behind the Attack

"Some municipal services may be temporarily disrupted or difficult to reach.", is the message displayed in a pop-up when accessing the City of Quiberon's website. And for good reason, the City of Quiberon's IT system was targeted by a cyberattack.

This town located in Morbihan, in Brittany, was the victim of an intrusion on Sunday, May 3, 2026. This security incident was quickly claimed by Qilin, a very well-known ransomware group. Above all, it is also one of the most active groups.

All signs point to data having been encrypted, especially since services are disrupted. "Since Monday, investigations have been underway to understand the attackers' operating methods and to enable a secure reinstallation of the IT system.", says the City of Quiberon's statement.

Moreover, the City of Quiberon has been added to the list of victims on the cybercriminals' portal. See for yourself:

Services Running in Degraded Mode

The town hall is trying to reassure residents, even though the situation is tense internally. The premises remain accessible during normal opening hours (Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.). It is specified that "municipal services remain mobilized to ensure continuity of public service." - But without the usual IT tools.

For now, investigations are continuing to determine the exact extent of the damage, and the City has assured that "further information will be communicated as the investigations progress".
