Claude Design: Anthropic’s New AI Tool for Visuals and Prototypes

Anthropic has unveiled Claude Design, an AI tool for creating visuals, prototypes, and even interactive presentations from a simple prompt. This new feature is powered by Claude Opus 4.7, Anthropic’s most capable public-facing AI model to date.

Anthropic’s Take on AI-Assisted Visual Creation

Every new tool unveiled by Anthropic is a small event. This one is aimed squarely at designers, marketing teams, and developers: the user describes their need in text, and the AI generates an initial visual draft of the project. Its name is Claude Design, and according to Anthropic, it was built to address several specific use cases:

  • Design prototyping, including dynamic elements.
  • Creating product mockups.
  • Exploring new visual ideas.
  • Preparing presentations and pitch decks.
  • Building marketing assets (landing pages, visuals for social media).

"Start by entering text, upload images and documents (DOCX, PPTX, XLSX) or point Claude to your codebase. You can also use the Web capture tool to pull elements directly from your website, so prototypes look like the real product.", Anthropic explains.

Using Claude Design does not stop at the initial creation of an asset. No, you can refine the resulting design throughout the conversation with the AI, using direct editing tools or even custom "sliders" that Claude deploys for the occasion (the tweaks system).

Once the work is complete, what happens to your creation? Several options are available: you can save the result as a ZIP archive, a PDF or PPTX file, a standalone HTML package, or switch over to Claude Code. That last option is important if you want to continue development from a visual mockup.

Even more surprising, it is possible to send creations directly to Canva, a solution that also offers its own AI tools for generating visuals.

Available directly from a palette-shaped icon in the Claude.ai navigation panel (or via claude.ai/design), Claude Design is already available to Claude subscribers (Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise). However, this is a project released as a "research preview" and is therefore likely to evolve and improve further.

Advanced Customization and Immediate Market Impact

What sets Claude Design apart is its ability to integrate your own design systems. In this way, users can configure their style, branding guidelines, and more by providing different data sources. You can link GitHub repositories, local files (code), Figma files (which contributed to a 7% drop in the company’s stock following this announcement), or folders containing your fonts and logos (similar to Canva’s Brand space).

"All future projects then automatically use your colors, typography, and components. You can refine this system over time, and teams can manage multiple ones.", Anthropic explains. Once these elements are configured, all new projects will automatically inherit the style information you expect.
