Samsung April 2026 Update Breaks Microsoft 365 and Authenticator Apps

Samsung’s April 2026 security patch appears to be having a major impact on Microsoft mobile apps. Galaxy smartphone owners are reporting issues using Microsoft Teams, Outlook, and the Microsoft Authenticator app.

Samsung: major issues with Microsoft apps

Since April 8, 2026, Samsung has begun rolling out its monthly security update for its Android smartphones, especially those in the Galaxy lineup. As every month, this update is designed to improve device security by patching vulnerabilities, including 47 security flaws (14 of them critical) with the April 2026 release.

But the focus of this article is the trouble users have been experiencing after installing this update. It appears to be disrupting Microsoft mobile apps, especially Authenticator and apps in the Microsoft 365 ecosystem.

On Samsung’s side, a dedicated thread about the issue already spans more than ten pages. "I have an S25 Ultra and, after the April 2026 security patch, MS Teams and MS Authenticator work normally, then suddenly stop. I can open Teams, but everyone’s status disappears and, if I send an instant message to someone, it stays stuck sending.", explains one affected user on the Samsung forum.

In some cases, it may no longer be possible to open the Microsoft Authenticator app, and MFA-related notifications would stop working. Outlook also appears to be affected, with some users reporting that email synchronization no longer works.

There is also a thread about these issues on the Microsoft forum. One user says everything works on their PC, but that the mobile apps have become completely unusable since the April 2026 update.

A link to the use of a private DNS?

Faced with this blocking issue, users have tried many different workarounds in an attempt to find a fix. Several interesting leads have been suggested. The basic method, restarting the device, has already been mentioned: it can temporarily solve the problem, before it returns…

While searching the web for information about these issues, I came across several posts, including one serious lead mentioned in this Reddit post: disabling Private DNS on your smartphone. Of course, you may not use it, but if you do, it may be worth exploring.

"It worked for me. I blamed Microsoft's servers, since it's a work phone it is very locked down and rooted but DNS worked for me.", says one user. One might even think this issue affects people who have set up this kind of configuration, although that remains to be confirmed.

In the end, there do seem to be issues following the installation of Samsung’s April 2026 update on Samsung devices, but the root cause is still unclear... For those who have a Samsung smartphone and installed the April 2026 update, have you noticed any problems with Microsoft apps?
